Sixteen Years: The First Bizarre Magick Group on Facebook

RedGrave Must Be Useful for Something September 17, 2025 Leave a reply

For those of you who are new or are unaware, I started this group 16 years ago as the first Bizarre Magick group on Facebook. It has since grown into the largest gathering of bizarrists in history, all carefully cultivated so we are not plagued with typical Facebook spam or trolling. And honoring the GIANTS on whose shoulders we stand.

Also there was a method to my madness. If you search “For your files” you have 15 years of gathered topics and stories that are ripe to turn into a bizarre presentation. And if you search for “Must be useful for something” you get 15 years of physical things that could be used in your presentations.

I encourage members who share such things to start their post with those respctive wordings.

Tell Stories People Have Never Heard

This Facebook group remains the largest gathering of bizarrists in history. Remember you are free to contribute ideas or videos or ask the group of luminary illuminata for feedback.

If you search in the group for “For your files” or “Must be useful” you’ll find over a decade’s worth of ideas that could transform your show. Telling stories people have never heard will make you unique and memorable.

Feel free to recruit Bizarrists to join us here. Just be sure they answer the entrance questions so we know they meant to be here. We get so many people bidding entrance that can’t be bothered. Sadly for them I have to decline. It is important from Day One to protect the integrity and safety of this group.

If you have a local gathering you’d like to post an event for, feel free. It’s great to see a vibrant, decentralized community of true magickal artists.

For your files…

6 miles from St. Louis is Cahokia, an ancient civilization that was larger than medieval London or Paris or Rome. It includes pyramid structures 10 stories tall. Dates to 1000 AD, with a series of a dozen similar sites around the south east it is called the Mississippian society. Their trade routes extended across the United States. A great show on this is found on the Smithsonian channel – Secrets: America's Lost Pyramid.

This comes from Christopher Kessler who presented it in the Elders group as a very very early citation of mentalism and bizarre.

For your files…

This comes from Christopher Kessler who presented it in the Elders group as a very very early citation of mentalism and bizarre.

The manuscript dates from around 200 AD and has recently been made available to the public by the Vatican. The full title is Book IV of Hippolytus Refutation of All Heresies (Philosophumena). Chapters 28 to 41 describe performance specifics, including pre-show work, novel impression devices, Q&A, billet switching, stage illusions, and spirit writing, and effects of bizarre Magick. Book IV is the relevant one. A PDF version is available for free from the Vatican library: http://www.documentacatholicaomnia.eu/04z/z_0180-0254__Hippolytus_Romanus__The_Refutation_Of_All_Heresies_[Schaff]__EN.pdf.html
